Alternative Chronic Back Pain Treatment

If you've tried traditional chronic back pain treatment options and are still suffering there are alternative options that show promise, without being too "out-there" for most people to try. Some of these unconventional treatment options can offer relief for a few hours, some for longer. Not every treatment will work the same for every patient, and not everyone will respond to every treatment. It is important to be persistent and keep trying until you find the treatment that works for you. You do not have to live your life with chronic back pain - but do make sure that whoever is administering the treatment is a qualified professional.

Probably the most common and most effective alternative treatment is chiropractic. This will probably not be able to provide a permanent cure for your pain but a qualified chiropractor can certainly provide temporary relief from your suffering. Chiropratic is based on the idea that regular adjustment of the spine is good for the overall well being of the body, especially the back and legs. The chiropractor's role is to remove and impediments to the normal functioning of the spinal column so the joints of the spine can move properly.

A licensed chiroprator will take X-rays on your first visit. A spinal adjustment does not hurt and the ability to get relief without drugs is a great feeling for many people.  Most insurances cover chiropratic visits and the patient usually does not have to go more than once or twice a month to maintain spinal health.

Massage therapy is another effective chronic back pain treatment. It has gotten a bad name over the years because the name has been used as a cover for more illicit activities, but a qualified massage therapist can definitely make a difference in how you will feel if you continue to see them regularly. Again, this is not a long term cure but can offer reliable temporary relief. Ongoing therapy will help your body adjust to dealing with the pain in a more efficient way. Once you stop treatment, however, you will begin to feel the pain again so be prepared to commit to massage therapy long term if you want continued relief.

In this video Dr. Jeff Echols explains how the health of the spine affects the organs of the body, what a subluxation is and how chiropractic adjustments can fix it. A chiro can fix much more than just back pain.
